Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride Facts

You may not know it, but your food has minerals that are important for your oral health. Fluoride is one of those, and they help to keep your teeth healthy. In some way, your teeth also lose minerals resulting in them being more vulnerable to the attacks of bacteria and sugar. If demineralization is left without treatment, it eventually leads to tooth decay.

You can still get the right amount of mineral for your teeth. Your dentist in Kingston offers fluoride treatments with your professional teeth cleaning session. Depending on your dentist’s preference, they will use a fluoridated toothpaste, gel, varnish, or foam for your teeth. Then, they will let you top off with a fluoridated mouthwash or rinse. However, you can also buy fluoridated products over-the-counter with your dentist’s advice.

Both kids and adults can take advantage of the benefits of fluoride treatment. Nevertheless, if you think your kid needs additional protection for their teeth, this could be suitable for them. Let them visit their dentist in Hamilton for a fun and worthwhile dental checkup.

What Is Fluoride?

Fluoride is a safe compound found throughout nature-from the water we drink and air we breathe, to many kinds of foods.

Why Is Fluoride Important To Teeth?

Fluoride is absorbed into structures, such as bones and teeth, making them stronger and more resistant to fractures and decay. A process in your body called “remineralization” uses fluoride to repair damage caused by decay.

How Do I Get Fluoride?

Just drinking public water will provide a certain measure of fluoride protection. But for years, health professionals have endorsed the practice of supplementing our intake with certain dietary products, and topical fluorides in many toothpastes and some kinds of rinses. Certain kinds of dental varnishes and gels may also be applied directly to teeth to boost fluoride intake.

Fluoride at Your Dental Office

At each of your dental visits, your dentist or hygienist will apply a fluoride treatment to your teeth. This concentrated fluoride should remain on your teeth for one minute and should not be rinsed away for at least a half an hour. This fluoride will strengthen the enamel and make your teeth more resistant to decay.
